Strawberry Martini Recipe

This strawberry martini recipe will give you as handsome a drink as you'd ever want... and one with a delightful flavor, too!

Strawberry Martini

Isn't it beautiful! It has a very refined taste, too. Here's how it's made:

Non-Alcoholic "Virgin" Strawberry Martini Drink Recipe

  • 1 Small, Well-ripened Strawberry and a Pick (for Garnish)
  • Cocktail Shaker and Ice
  • 1/4 Cup (50 mL) Water
  • 1 Tablespoon (15 mL) Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon (15 mL) Grenadine
  • 2 Drops Clove Extract or 6-8 Large Cloves
  • 6 Drops Juniper Extract or 12-15 Pine Nuts

Note: it is generally better to use the extracts, since their flavors are more consistent than the flavors from muddling, and there is no difficulty with straining the drink later. Clove oil is commonly found in the baking aisles of grocery stores, while juniper extract is more likely to be found in a vitamin/herbal supplement section.

Before adding the ice to the shaker, if you are using cloves and/or pine nuts, gently mash (or "muddle") them in the bottom of the strainer with an actual "muddler", or with something like the end of the handle of a wooden spoon (you may also want to muddle in 1 or 2 strawberries for additional strawberry flavor). Add water, sugar, and grenadine to the muddled ingredients without the ice, and then stir (or cover and shake) the ingredients gently until the sugar is dissolved. Add the ice to the shaker and shake 10-15 times more (until everything is as cold as you like--after 15 shakes you'll be getting "watering down" of the martini, rather than much additional cooling). Strain out the ice (and any muddle) and pour into a glass. Roll the strawberry gently between your hands to bruise it slightly. Now put the pick into the strawberry and stir the berry a little in the drink. Drop the pick and strawberry into the glass, and serve.

Makes one 3.5 to 4 ounce (100-115 mL) serving.

An alcoholic strawberry martini recipe is the same as this recipe except that it substitutes 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of vermouth for the cloves/clove extract and 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of the water, and replaces the pine nuts/juniper extract and 2 tablespoons (35 mL) of water with dry, white gin.
