Strawberry Syrup on Waffles!

Also known as "strawberry coulis", this syrup tastes great as a strawberry topping on many different things! You can save money making your own syrup, too, especially if you grow your own strawberries. And it's really simple to make! Here's how:

Strawberry Syrup Topping Recipe

  • 1 Cup (250 mL) Strawberries
  • 1/4 Cup (50 mL) Water
  • 1/2 Cup (125 mL) Granulated White ("Table") Sugar

The first thing to do is to put the strawberries in a blender and puree them. Next, add the water to the blender and blend for 10 seconds. Wait another 10 seconds so that most of the seeds will settle out of the strawberry and water blend. Then pour the strawberry and water blend into the pan, being careful to leave the seeds behind, in the blender (discard the seeds).

Add the sugar to the pan and stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Once the sugar has dissolved, allow the syrup to come to a boil for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Finally, lower the stove setting to low heat and allow the syrup to lose moisture until it begins to thicken slightly.

You can use the syrup right away! Or, let it cool, put it in a container and save it for later (use within a week). Makes about 1 1/2 cups (375 mL).

Now you can make strawberry syrup anytime! Made with another useful (and yummy!) recipe from StrawberriesForStrawberryLovers.Com, Home of the World's Happiest Fruit!
